			      Newsletter #23

1. WEB BASED E-MAIL - We're proud to announce that web-based email access
is now available! We've got two different web-based email clients
available, one for PC users that are running Internet Explorer 4 or later,
and one for all other browsers (Macintosh users will have to wait for IE 5
to be released before they can use the special IE enhanced version). We
highly recommend PC users access the mail interface using IE 4 or later as
there are a number of advantages:
   - Secure connections (all usernames, passwords and messages are transmitted
securely between you and our server)
   - Familiar interface which looks and feels much more like the email
     program you are currently using
   - Enhanced attachment and message type handling

Everyone can log on via the address listed below and the appropriate
interface will be selected based on the browser you are using:

With this, you can access your Excel.Net mail on the road or from a
friend's house without needing to configure a mail program or bring your
computer! Also, when you get back to your "main" system the messages that
you had not deleted will still be available to download into your regular
e-mail client. Please let us know what you think, by sending your
comments and/or suggestions to techsupport@excel.net.

2. OFFICES CLOSED - Excel.Net offices will be closing at 4pm on Saturday,
August 28th, so that all of our employees are able to attend our company
picnic! We will reopen Sunday from 12pm-6pm and will get back to you if
you leave a message. Our offices will also be closed on September 6th in
observation of Labor day!

3. NEW EMPLOYEES - We are happy to have three additional members on our
technical support staff. They will be the people answering the phones and
helping you out with any questions that you might have. In fact some of
you have probably already spoken with them! Here is a little bit about
each of them. Just to give you a little background on then we have asked
that they prepare a "mini" bio:

B-R-Y-A-N is the proper spelling. Originally from Arkansas he moved to
Wisconsin about 4 years ago. He enjoys playing sports and helping others.
He also currently owns and operates a computer shop in New Holstein and
would some day like to go back and get a degree in Computer Science.

Linda is a lifelong resident of Sheboygan county. She has a Bachelor's
Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UW-Milwaukee and has worked as a
Project and Design engineer. She enjoys reading, baking (which we also
enjoy :) and race car driving. She is currently helping with the
restoration of Car 26 of the Interurban Line (basically an electric

Roger was born and raised in Sheboygan, but was stationed in Germany for
six years with the US Army. His wife, son and himself have been back in
the area for about five years. He has been playing with computers for
many years, all the way back to his Commodore 64!

4. APPLETON EXPANSION - We are in the process of adding a new location to
the Appleton area. This will allow us to cover the Appleton, Neenah,
Menasha, Kaukauna and surrounding areas. We will provide the telephone
number and exact calling areas once the site is up and running. This site
should be "live" by late September and we would appreciate it if you have
friends or relative in that area, that you let them know about us. Also,
remember to have them put your name in the referral area so that we can
give you a $5.00 credit on your next bill!

5. MODEM USAGE PAGE - We have made a couple of changes to our modem usage
page which is located at:

The opening page will give you a quick rundown of all of the cities and
the number of modems available. You can then select the city to get a
detailed view of the modem usage. This layout will be more easily
maintained as the number of locations continues to expand.

6. ACCOUNT NAME ON CHECK - For those of you who are paying by check each
month we would just like to remind you to put your e-mail address in the
notes section of the check. This greatly helps us when processing the
payment and insures that it is properly applied. As an alternative, we
would like to remind people that we can accept credit cards (Master Card,
Visa and Discover) as well as automatic withdrawal from your checking or
savings account. If you would like to find out more about either of these
payment options please send a message to admin@excel.net.

7. STORMS AND MODEMS - Without fail, after every heavy storm we will have
a number of users that are no longer able to get connected. The common
symptoms will be that they do not hear the modem and usually get a "No
Dial Tone" message. A lot of you probably have a UPS to protect against
power failures or spikes, but nothing to protect your phone line. It
would be a good idea to either protect the phone line or when we are
experiencing bad weather unplug the phone cord from the modem. They are
very sensitive to electricity and it does not take much to take one out.

8. UPDATES.COM - For those of you using Windows95, 98 or NT machines you
might want to consider visiting this site and signing up for their free
service. Basically what this will do is examine the programs that you
have installed on your system and then tell you if there are newer
versions available. It will even take you to the sites where the updates
are located if they are available for download!

Thank you for taking the time to look this over. If you have any
comments or suggestions for future newsletters please feel free to let us
know by e-mailing techsupport@excel.net. We appreciate your business and
hope that your Internet experience is enjoyable.
